THE SPANISH INSTITUTE
In 1991, the Madrileña born director of The Spanish Institute, Mónica Fernandes, taught her first Spanish classes in Manchester, England. Her desire to explore England encouraged her to move
to Cornwall where she continued to teach Spanish in a variety of Schools and Colleges. In 2005, Mónica relocated to Carlsbad, California where she started The Spanish Institute.

Mónica's ability to speak more than one language has allowed her to travel all over Europe, Asia, North America, and Central America. She has mingled with locals and learned about many different cultures. Speaking English and Spanish and having widely traveled the world, she knows from her own experience the joy of being able to speak with others in their native language. This awareness motivated her to teach her own native Spanish to other people.

The vision of The Spanish Institute is to share the beauty of the Spanish language and to help others discover the richness and diversity of Spanish speaking countries.
